 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. Cardi B Secures $1.2M Repayment Plan in Defamation Case Against Tasha K


American rapper Cardi B, born Belcalis Almánzar, has secured a $1.2 million repayment plan from media personality Tasha K as part of her $4 million defamation judgment.


According to Rolling Stone, a judge finalized the agreement on February 24, requiring Tasha K to pay $1.2 million in monthly installments over five years. While this does not cover the full amount, Cardi B retains the right to pursue the remaining balance after five years.


As part of the settlement, Tasha K agreed to stop making defamatory statements about Cardi B and her family on any platform, including podcasts and social media. However, Cardi B is not restricted from commenting on Tasha K.


Background:

Cardi B won a $4 million defamation lawsuit against Tasha K in 2022, after the YouTuber falsely claimed the rapper had herpes, used cocaine, and worked as a prostitute.
