Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai has revealed that President Bola Tinubu was responsible for rejecting his ministerial nomination, not the National Assembly as previously reported.
In an interview on, El-Rufai explained that Tinubu had initially asked him to join his cabinet, but later changed his mind.
El-Rufai stated that he had initially declined Tinubu's offer, citing his desire to take a break after serving as governor for eight years. However, after two months of negotiations, they agreed that he would be nominated as minister, subject to certain conditions.
El-Rufai claimed that Tinubu's change of heart was the reason for his rejection, not the National Assembly's decision, which was reportedly due to security concerns.
The former governor questioned the security report used to reject his nomination, asking, "What was the security issue? I have been the governor for 8 years in one of the most difficult states in the country. Where is the report?".
He also expressed concerns about the functioning of the All Progressives Congress, of which he is a founding member.
