 South Africa says US misrepresented its policies after visa curbs South Africa's foreign ministry said on Wednesday that it ‌had noted with concern U.S. visa restrictions on some people from South Africa announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio a day earlier. The foreign ministry added in a statement that ⁠the U.S. announcement aligned with "the mischaracterisation of South Africa's domestic policies by fringe groups". "We maintain that challenges in our bilateral relations with the USA can only be resolved by constructive engagement through state actors on both sides of the diplomatic channel not unilateral acts," the statement said, Reuters reported. Trump has repeatedly criticized ‌South ⁠Africa since the start of his second term for what he falsely claims is the racial persecution of its white minority, citing affirmative action laws aimed at ⁠addressing the inequality that has persisted since apartheid.  ENUGU POLICE OPERATIVES ARREST ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS, RECOVER INCRIMINATING EXHIBITS


Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, serving at the 9th Mile Division, have arrested two male suspects, Chime Valentine Chidiebere (aged 25) and Alior Jideofor Kenechukwu (aged 30), for alleged armed robbery. The operatives, on February 6, 2025, acted on credible intelligence and arrested the suspects, recovering a Daylong motorcycle they had snatched from their victim, three locally fabricated guns with two live cartridges.


A preliminary investigation revealed that on January 5, 2025, the suspects boarded a commercial motorcycle from Okwojo Ngwo to Amokwe Ngwo, both in Udi LGA. Along the way, they stopped, shot the rider in the left thigh, and fled with the motorcycle. However, the police operatives, leveraging intelligence, located and arrested the suspects, recovering the stolen motorcycle, firearms, and the ammunition. The victim is currently recuperating from the gunshot injury. 


Further investigative actions are ongoing to arrest the suspects' accomplices who are still at large, and upon conclusion of investigations, they will be arraigned in court.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), has urged residents to continue to be law-abiding, vigilant, and support the police by providing credible and actionable information. He emphasises that the support will immensely aid the police to sustain the tempo on combating and ridding Enugu State of unrepentant criminals and their activities.
