Lagos police launch investigation as jeweller  accuses its officers of harassment The Lagos State Police Command said it has commenced an investigation into a viral video of a jeweller accusing some policemen in the Festac area of the state of harassing him.  The command disclosed this in an X post on Saturday. The video, which circulated on X on Saturday morning, shows the businessman engaged in a struggle with some policemen. Later in the video, the businessman could be seen with a bloody face after allegedly sustaining a cut beside his right eye during the struggle with the police officers,  The jeweller later explained that the policemen from the Festac Division had stopped him for a routine search.  Hit-and-Run Driver Fatally Strikes FUNAAB Professor in Abeokuta


Residents of Ajebo Road Housing Estate, Kemta, Abeokuta, are mourning the tragic death of Professor Oladipo Ademuyiwa, a Biochemical Toxicology expert at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). He was killed by a hit-and-run driver on the newly rehabilitated Kemta-Somorin road on Sunday.  


Prof. Ademuyiwa, in his early 60s, had just stepped out of a cab and was attempting to cross the road when a speeding driver struck him and fled the scene.  


Dr. Ayo Ajasa, Chairman of the Ajebo Road Housing Estate Community Development Association (CDA), described the professor’s death as preventable, blaming the government’s failure to install speed breakers despite multiple community appeals.  


“This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for government intervention to prevent further loss of life,” Ajasa stated. “Despite repeated pleas, no action has been taken to implement necessary safety measures on this road.”  


He urged the Ogun State government to install speed breakers, lorry barriers, and proper traffic signage to curb reckless driving. Ajasa also called for stricter law enforcement, warning that another accident occurred within 24 hours of the professor’s death, proving the road remains a danger to residents.  


“We hold the government accountable and urge immediate action before more lives are lost,” he added, appealing to civil society and the media to amplify the call for safer roads.
