 IGP DISU PAYS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO  AKWA IBOM, PRESIDES OVER PASSING-OUT CEREMONY OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 30th April 2026, undertook an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained Police Constables in Uyo.  Hit-and-Run Driver Fatally Strikes FUNAAB Professor in Abeokuta


Residents of Ajebo Road Housing Estate, Kemta, Abeokuta, are mourning the tragic death of Professor Oladipo Ademuyiwa, a Biochemical Toxicology expert at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). He was killed by a hit-and-run driver on the newly rehabilitated Kemta-Somorin road on Sunday.  


Prof. Ademuyiwa, in his early 60s, had just stepped out of a cab and was attempting to cross the road when a speeding driver struck him and fled the scene.  


Dr. Ayo Ajasa, Chairman of the Ajebo Road Housing Estate Community Development Association (CDA), described the professor’s death as preventable, blaming the government’s failure to install speed breakers despite multiple community appeals.  


“This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for government intervention to prevent further loss of life,” Ajasa stated. “Despite repeated pleas, no action has been taken to implement necessary safety measures on this road.”  


He urged the Ogun State government to install speed breakers, lorry barriers, and proper traffic signage to curb reckless driving. Ajasa also called for stricter law enforcement, warning that another accident occurred within 24 hours of the professor’s death, proving the road remains a danger to residents.  


“We hold the government accountable and urge immediate action before more lives are lost,” he added, appealing to civil society and the media to amplify the call for safer roads.
