 ANAMBRA POLICE ACTION ON THE CULT CLASH THAT RESULTED IN THE FATAL INJURY OF FOUR PERSONS AT AFOR NAWFIA MARKET The Anambra State Police Command wishes to provide a comprehensive update on the cult-related attack that occurred on the evening of 7th December 2025 at Afor Nawfia Market, along the Onitsha–Awka Old Road. It will be recalled that operatives of the Command attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugwu-Ukwu, had, four days earlier, acting on credible intelligence about a planned rival cult confrontation, arrested two dangerous suspects and recovered a firearm from them. The arrested suspects have been assisting the Police with valuable information aimed at preventing further cult-related violence within Awka and its environs.  HOW 28 PASSENGERS BURNT TO DEATH IN ONDO ROAD CRASH


No fewer than 28 people have been confirmed dead in the tragic accident that occured in Ore, Ondo State, on Saturday.


While confirming the unfortunate incident, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Ondo State, warned drivers against over-speeding and violation of traffic rules in order to reduce road crashes, loss of lives and property on the highway.

Speaking with our correspondent in Ore, Ibitoye said “no fewer than 28 people were burnt beyond recognition on Saturday evening in a fatal accident caused by head-on collision of two vehicles at Mile 49, on the Ore-Lagos expressway.


According to him “the accident was caused by excessive speeding and traffic violation which lead to a head-on collision by the two vehicles while 28 passengers out of 30 passengers lost their lives tragically.


“it’s unfortunate that 28 lives were burnt beyond recognition in the fatal accident caused excessive speeding and traffic violations.


“The contract between drivers and passengers is to take them safely to their destinations after they have paid, not drive them to their graves.


He added that drivers must always exercise patience on the highway.


Ibitoye said that passengers must also ensure their safety by cautioning drivers, who always throw caution into the air, adding that passengers can as report reckless drivers to FRSC personnel on the highway.


“This is why everyone must participate in road safety, the passengers too have a role to play by cautioning drivers or reporting them to FRSC personnel on the highway.


“We appeal to our drivers to always exercise patience on the highway in order to reduce crashes to safe lives and property,” Ibitoye said.


Our correspondent gathered that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital in Ore while the two survivors who sustained high degree of injuries are at the same hospital for treatment.
