Kebbi Police Arrest Suspected Ritualists, Armed Robbers in Separate Operations

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested suspected ritualists and armed robbers in two separate incidents, reinforcing its commitment to tackling crime across the state.

In a statement on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, detailed how operatives in Koko town apprehended a group of suspected ritualists on February 4, 2025, at about 7:00 PM, following credible intelligence.

The suspects—Bello Abubakar, Jamilu Bello, Safiyanu Bello, and Usman Inda—allegedly conspired with an accomplice currently at large, Idrisu Yauri, to defraud one Shamsu Adamu of ₦2,025,000 under the pretense of producing CFA currency worth thirty million.

“When Adamu failed to provide additional funds, the suspects allegedly threatened him with dire consequences unless he offered a child for sacrifice. Out of fear, he handed over his 4-year-old daughter, Amina Shamsu,” the statement revealed.

However, operatives from Koko Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly intervened, arresting the suspects in the act.

Items Recovered:

Armed Robbery Incident:

In another operation on February 9, 2025, at about 8:00 PM, four armed men ambushed a commercial motorcyclist, Abubakar Muhammad, and his two passengers, Abdullahi Bello and Jamilu Adamu, while they were traveling to Unguwar Mairago village in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area.

The attackers, wielding sticks and knives, launched a brutal assault on the victims.

“Their cries for help alerted police officers stationed at a nearby checkpoint, who responded immediately and arrested two of the suspects, Bashar Abdullahi and Babangida Hassan,” the statement added.

A knife was recovered from the scene, while the remaining two suspects managed to escape.

Commissioner’s Response:

Commending the officers for their swift action, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, praised their vigilance and urged security personnel to remain proactive in responding to distress calls.

He also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, to intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure a thorough investigation leading to prosecution.

Reassuring residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, CP Sani urged the public to remain security-conscious and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
