Laredo's Roxanne Perez makes history at 2025 WWE Royal Rumble, finishes 2nd after 67 minutes in match

Laredo's Roxanne Perez delivered a historic performance at the WWE Royal Rumble on Saturday, falling just short in her bid to shock the world and earn a spot in the main event of WrestleMania.

Perez lasted longer than any woman in Royal Rumble history, competing for 67 minutes and 47 seconds before being the final competitor eliminated.

The Royal Rumble is one of the most popular matches of the year, featuring 30 Superstars with two starting the match and another entering every 90 seconds. A competitor is eliminated only if they are thrown over the top rope and both feet touch the floor.

It is also considered one of the most important matches of the year, with the winner earning a championship match at WWE’s biggest event, WrestleMania.

Perez, competing in the Royal Rumble for the third straight year, entered this year's match at No. 3 just 90 seconds in. She fought until the final bell, becoming the 29th competitor eliminated as Charlotte Flair — the most decorated women's superstar of all time — ultimately claimed the victory.

Interestingly, Perez recorded just one elimination. She took out NXT foe Giulia — who ended her 276-day championship run last month — after the latter entered at No. 28 and both reached the final five.

The performance kicks off Perez's year on a high note. She captured ESPN's Women's Wrestler of the Year award in 2024 despite being just 23 years old and competing in NXT, WWE's developmental division.

Perez has an upcoming match against Giulia and Bayley for the NXT Women's Championship at NXT Vengeance Day on Feb. 15 in Washington, D.C., which will be televised on Peacock. She has also been feuding recently with Bayley, a cornerstone of WWE's main roster who won the Royal Rumble last year and went on to capture the WWE Women's Championship. Speculation continues that Perez may be due for an official main roster call-up soon, with Bayley potentially being her first feud.
