Nasarawa: Governor Sule Removes Two Traditional Rulers Over Resource Control Conflict

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has removed two traditional rulers following a violent dispute over resource control.

The decision aims to restore peace in the Afo chiefdom of Udu Ward and Mararaba Udege.

Governor Sule made the announcement on Wednesday while briefing journalists after assessing the damage caused by recent clashes in Nasarawa Local Government Area.

The conflict, driven by leadership and resource control issues, resulted in three deaths and the displacement of several residents.

Emphasizing the need for unity, the governor urged the Afo people to prioritize reconciliation over violence.

“Often, crises stem from a lack of understanding among ourselves. This community belongs to the Afo people but is also home to other tribes. It is time for us to embrace one another and focus on development,” Governor Sule stated.

To ensure a smooth transition, he announced plans to establish a committee, led by a former military officer, to oversee the affected communities and facilitate the appointment of a new traditional ruler.

The governor also issued a firm warning to rival factions, stressing that the government would not tolerate any further actions that could destabilize the region.
