Super Bowl dancer detained after unveiling Gaza and Sudan flags during half-time performance

A half-time performer at the Super Bowl has been detained after unfurling Palestinian and Sudanese flags.

During Kendrick Lamar's half-time show, the dancer stood on a car and held up the flags, which had "Sudan" and "Gaza" written on them.

The incident occurred during Lamar’s final song, TV Off, as the performer stood on the back of a black Grand National car featured throughout the set.

After unfurling the flag, the man jumped off the stage and ran across the field for about 20 seconds before security tackled him and escorted him away.

The NFL has confirmed the dancer was part of the 400-member cast of the half-time show.

"The individual hid the item on his person and unveiled it late in the show," it said.

"No one involved with the production was aware of the individual's intent."

The New Orleans Police Department said officials were "working to determine applicable charges in this incident".

“The individual will (be) banned for life from all NFL stadiums and events,” NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said in a statement.

The entertainment company which produced the half-time show, Roc Nation, said the act "was not planned nor part of the production and was never in any rehearsal."

The show continued without interruption
