 LAGOS RE-INTRODUCES MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE …Governor, Deputy lead State officials to clean up Mushin corridor Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday, announced the re-introduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation in the State. The Governor said the exercise will hold every last Saturday of the Month between the hours of 6:30am and 8:30am but without movement restrictions. He stressed that the exercise would be monitored by State officials with appropriate sanctions to be meted out to erring neighbourhoods and markets. Sanwo-Olu made the pronouncement during a ceremony held in Olosa Bus Stop in Mushin which marked the symbolic flag-off of the monthly sanitation. The Governor, who led his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and member of the State cabinet on the mission, said the culture of environmental responsibility must be imbibed by the residents across all communities in the state and reflect same in their lifestyle.  16 Burnt to Death, Three Injured in Ogun Road Accident


At least 16 people were burnt to death, and three others sustained severe injuries in a lone accident on Tuesday at Buhari Estate along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, Ogun State.


The crash involved a white Mazda bus (KJA 949 YJ) carrying 21 passengers when a fire outbreak led to an explosion, reportedly caused by a filled gas cylinder inside the vehicle.


According to Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the victims were burnt beyond recognition, making it difficult to determine their gender.


FRSC operatives from the Abeokuta Sector Command carried out the rescue operation, confirming that 16 people died, three were injured, and two escaped unharmed. The injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, while efforts were underway to evacuate the bodies.


Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin sympathized with the families of the deceased and cautioned against transporting highly flammable items in passenger vehicles, stressing the importance of safety precautions while traveling.
