 Recording Academy adds five new Grammy categories, updates rules for 2026 awards NEW YORK - The Recording Academy is introducing five new categories and making several rule changes for the 2026 Grammy Awards in an effort to reflect the evolving global music landscape. Among the new additions is a best Asian pop music performance category, which will honor performances across genres such as K-pop, J-pop, C-pop and other Asian pop styles, with the award going to performers. A new best traditional pop vocal performance category will recognize artists whose work does not fit within modern pop styles. A best Latin song category will spotlight songwriters for Spanish-language Latin recordings. Changes are also coming to existing categories in R&B and folk music. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS AND RECOVERY OF ARMS AND AMMUNITION


The Rivers State Police Command has achieved a laudable feat by successfully arresting five suspected kidnappers and recovering a significant cache of arms and ammunitions.


Following a series of kidnapping incidents within the Rukpokwu, Igwuruta, Omagwa, and Etche areas, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on actionable intelligence, conducted a coordinated operation on March 8, 2025, commencing at approximately 09:30 am. The operation lasted for eight hours and resulted in the arrest of the following men:


Mohammadu Bello, 30 years old, from Padiki LGA of Kwara State, residing in Rukpokwu.


Suleman Umar, 26 years old, from Hadeja LGA of Jigawa State, residing in Rukpokwu.


Bello Amadu, 35 years old, from Keffi-Hausa LGA of Jigawa State, residing in Rukpokwu.


Adamu Musa, 30 years old, from Hadeja LGA of Jigawa State, residing in Rukpokwu.


Abubakar Mohammed, 22 years old, from Azare LGA of Bauchi State, residing in Rukpokwu.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to multiple kidnapping activities, including the tragic killing of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa where the CSO and his son were murdered in cold blood.


The following exhibits were recovered from the suspects:


Two (2) AK-47 rifles


Six (6) AK-47 magazines


Sixty-six (66) rounds of ammunition


Three (3) locally made pistols


Ten (10) live cartridges


Several mobile phones and SIM cards


The suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators. Efforts are ongoing to uncover details of other crimes committed by the syndicate and arrest others at large.
