GOVERNOR UZODIMMA CALLS FOR UNITY AND POLITICAL STABILITY IN IMO STATE

The Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, has reaffirmed his commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable governance, emphasizing the importance of collective interests over personal ambition in shaping the state’s political future.

Welcoming the Owerri Zone delegation to the Imo Government House, the Governor expressed his appreciation for their visit, describing them as the true landlords of the house. He encouraged them to feel at home and actively participate in the democratic process.

"Democracy is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, and you represent the people," he stated. He also expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to work diligently to justify their trust.

Reflecting on the state’s political history, the Governor highlighted two major achievements under his administration: the recovery of Imo State from past challenges and the restoration of peace.

"Before my emergence, we lost Imo State. But despite everything, we have recovered our state and restored its honor. We must give glory to God for that," he remarked. He stressed that governance can only thrive in a peaceful environment, adding that "a few years ago, it might not have been possible for us to sit together like this and discuss where the next governor would come from. But today, we can."

The Governor further reaffirmed his belief in the Charter of Equity, a framework designed to promote fairness and stability in Imo State politics. He urged political leaders to prioritize unity over personal ambition, warning against external influences that could sow division.

"Very soon, external forces will try to confuse you. They will approach you, tell you that you are the best candidate for governor, and even offer you money. Once you accept, you will start believing you are already governor. But after the elections, you will find yourself abandoned," he cautioned.

To foster long-term political harmony, he advocated for reconciliation and tolerance, reminding the delegation that "a person who cannot forgive his brother for past grievances is not fit to be a governor."

On governance and economic progress, the Governor highlighted significant strides made in reducing the state’s debt and increasing internally generated revenue (IGR).

"When I took office, I met a debt portfolio of ₦298 billion. By 2021, we had reduced it to ₦110 billion. Our internally generated revenue was ₦400 million; today, it is close to ₦5 billion per month. That is governance," he asserted.

He emphasized the need for a well-focused and courageous leader to succeed him, urging political stakeholders to consider of Equity in the selection of the next governor.

In his closing remarks, the Governor urged the delegation to prioritize unity and collective progress.

"Go home, unite, show love to one another, and trust each other. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed," he said. He cautioned against excessive materialism, reminding political leaders that true legacy lies in service, not wealth accumulation.

"At the end of the day, it is only God who determines who will be governor. Many people fight and even die pursuing what they do not need, instead of focusing on what truly matters," he added.

The Governor reiterated his commitment to ensuring a peaceful and prosperous Imo State and encouraged all stakeholders to work together for the common good.
