Rebels to withdraw from key DR Congo town 'after US request' The M23 rebel group has said it would withdraw from the eastern DR Congo town of Uvira at the request of the US administration, which had criticised seizure of the town last week as a threat to mediation efforts. The rebels entered Uvira, on the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met with US President Donald Trump in Washington and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept." A report by a United Nations group of experts in July said Rwanda exercised command and control over the rebels.  Gov Yusuf to Okpebholo: Perpetrators of Uromi killings should be Paraded

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on the Edo State Government to parade those responsible for the brutal killing of 16 travelers in Uromi, Edo State.

He made the call while receiving Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who led a delegation to Kano to offer condolences over the tragic incident.

Welcoming Governor Okpebholo, Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the killings, emphasizing that most of the victims were from Kano State.

“It is a known fact that our people were traveling from Port Harcourt through Edo State when they were brutally attacked. Many were maimed, burnt, and murdered in cold blood,” he said.

Governor Yusuf acknowledged the swift response of the Edo State Government, commending Okpebholo for his immediate visit to the crime scene and his efforts to ensure the victims were buried in accordance with the law.

He also praised the swift arrests made by security agencies and urged that justice be served.

“Kano people trust you, and you have assured us that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. We appeal to you to ensure that they are not only arrested but also paraded publicly so that the world sees those responsible for this heinous crime,” Yusuf stated.

The Kano governor reiterated Kano’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and warned against reprisals, stressing that Nigeria belongs to all citizens. He called on leaders to work together to prevent such incidents in the future and urged security agencies to take firm action against those who incite violence.

Earlier, Governor Okpebholo assured the people of Kano that justice would be served, revealing that 14 suspects had already been arrested and were being transferred to Abuja for further investigation.

He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining harmony between the Hausa community in Edo and their hosts, stressing that the attack did not reflect the values of the state.

“I want to assure you that Mr. President was deeply disturbed by this incident and has directed security agencies to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to book,” Okpebholo said.
