 PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE COMMENDS RESILIENCE OF NIGERIAN WORKERS President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio has congratulated Nigerian workers on International Labour Day 2026, praising their resilience, hard work, and patriotism despite economic challenges. In his May Day message, Akpabio described workers as the true heroes of Nigeria’s democracy and the engine of the economy.  Gunmen KILL Chairman Of Miyetti Allah Herders' Union In Kwara


Idrissu Abubakar, Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Kwara State, was shot dead on Saturday by unidentified gunmen.


A statement from MACBAN revealed that armed men with sophisticated weapons stormed Abubakar's residence at around 10:00 pm and fatally shot him.


The incident occurred at his Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi residence in Kwara State, as reported by the group's National Secretary-General, Bello Aliyu Gotomo.


Gotomo noted that Abubakar's murder comes two months after his Katsina State counterpart, Sirajo Ahmad Mairana, was killed in similar circumstances.


"In the past two years, we lost seven leaders comprising state and local government chairmen to gunmen," Gotomo stated.


He emphasised that 'Miyetti Allah' was concerned about the targeted killings of its key members.


The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the murder in a statement, noting that the command was investigating the incident.


The command's spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, also confirmed that Abubakar's remains were deposited at a morgue.


Ejire-Adeyemi said, "The Kwara State Police Command confirms the murder of Alhaji Idris Abubakar, the chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kwara State, who was shot dead on 8th March 2025 at the entrance of his residence in Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi.


"Police detectives responded swiftly and recovered five expended 7.62mm shells, his remains have been deposited at UITH Mortuary. 


"The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has commenced a full investigation. CP Victor Olaiya, psc(+) assures that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and urges the public to remain calm and provide useful information."
