Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years.  Lagos Assembly: Obasa Holds Reconciliatory Meeting with Meranda, Lawmakers, May Drop Lawsuit

The re-elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, is currently holding a closed-door reconciliatory meeting with 39 lawmakers, including Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda.

The meeting, which began at 2:10 PM at the Assembly Complex in Alausa, Ikeja, aims to ease tensions and unite aggrieved lawmakers while setting a new direction for the House.

Following this development, speculation about Obasa’s possible resignation appears to be unfounded.

Sources indicate that Obasa is likely to withdraw his lawsuit against the Assembly and 33 lawmakers at the Ikeja Court, which he had filed after his removal as Speaker.

On January 13, 2025, 33 out of 39 lawmakers voted to remove Obasa, replacing him with his deputy, Mojisola Meranda. However, following interventions from the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership at both state and national levels—including efforts led by Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Segun Osoba—Obasa was re-elected as Speaker after Meranda stepped down.

The crisis had caused serious division within the Assembly and the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), prompting President Bola Tinubu to step in and facilitate a resolution.
