 *PRESS RELEASE* EDO POLICE CONVENES POLITICAL PARTIES, SETS SECURITY TONE FOR 2027 ELECTIONEERING The Edo State Police Command has convened Chairmen of political parties, candidates and other key stakeholders in the electoral process for a strategic security meeting ahead of the 2027 electioneering campaigns. The meeting, held on Wednesday, 16th September, 2026, was designed to strengthen engagement between the Police and political actors, promote early understanding of security expectations, and establish a framework for peaceful and lawful political activities across the State. Addressing participants, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, psc(+), mnips, emphasised that the role of the Police is to create the conditions for lawful political activity to thrive, not to participate in the political contest, and stressed the need for responsible conduct and sustained cooperation with security agencies.  Fugitive Prince Gift Mdluli Arrested for Ermelo Police Officer’s Murder


Prince Gift Mdluli has been arrested in connection with the murder of Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorius.


Pretorius, head of the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Ermelo, was shot and killed on 16 January 2024.


Mdluli was captured after an intensive manhunt in KwaZulu-Natal. His arrest brings the total number of suspects in the case to six.


Authorities continue their investigation to ensure all those responsible are brought to justice.
