Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has warned residents against recruiting criminals from outside the state to carry out kidnappings and other violent crimes, describing the trend as a major setback to ongoing efforts to improve security. The governor issued the warning on Wednesday while speaking at the 2026 Ministers’ Conference organised by the Edo State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Benin City. Okpebholo expressed concern over the security situation in the state, alleging that some individuals were deliberately exaggerating incidents of crime and spreading false information on social media to discredit his administration.  Shehu Sani reveals plans to return to senate in 2027

A former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has said he has the plan to make a return to the red chamber in 2027.

Sani made this known on Sunday at his Kaduna residence. He said, “Any politician contesting an election depends on the political equation that determines the position to vie for. If the conditions are right and the equations are favourable, I will offer myself to contest specifically for the Kaduna Central senatorial district.”

Sani, who was in the Senate from 2015 to 2019, however, said  his primary focus was to see that Governor Uba Sani was elected for a second term.

He stated, “For now, our priority is to see that the incumbent governor, Uba Sani, is re-elected. We will work with all our might and strength to achieve this. We know there will be challenges and opposition, but we are well prepared for all forces.”

The former senator condemned the recent killing of hunters in Edo State. He said, “If citizens cannot move freely across the country, then we are not truly a nation. If individuals take the law into their hands for any reason, it means there is no government or authority.”
