Abia State Government to Mark Governor Otti's 2nd Anniversary in Low-Key Celebration

The Abia State Government has announced plans to mark the second anniversary of Governor Alex Otti's administration in a low-key celebration. According to Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the event will focus on introspection and evaluation rather than pomp and pageantry. "The Government believes that the achievements recorded so far and the work we still need to do constitutes some form of work in progress," Prince Kanu said.

The celebration will offer an opportunity for the government to look back at its achievements and chart a course forward for the remaining two years of its administration. Activities lined up for the anniversary include an interdenominational thanksgiving service, presentation of scorecards by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), commissioning of completed projects, and flag-off of new ones.

The government has made significant progress in infrastructure development, including the completion of several roads in Aba under the Urban Renewal Agenda, such as Umuode Road, Bakassi Road, and Isi-Ihitteukwu Close. Additionally, the construction of Umuosi, Ihuoma, and Umukanna Roads is ongoing and nearing completion. The government also plans to develop a "new Umuahia City", expand the capital's landscape and aesthetics, and renovate the long-neglected vocational and skills center at Mgbarakuma.

Abia State is poised to enter the Guinness Book of Records through the creative effort of an Aba-based artist, Mr. Nuel Geoffrey, who will paint 300 faces in one hour. The state has also excelled in sports, clinching 33 medals at the maiden NDDC Sports Festival. The administration's commitment to youth empowerment through sports is evident in its recent achievements.

The Commissioner condemned acts of vandalism and theft of public properties, revealing the arrest of the Facility Manager and two staff members of the Aba Textile Mill for alleged robbery and sabotage. The State Government warned unscrupulous individuals to desist from such activities or face the law. Despite these challenges, the government remains committed to its development agenda and improving the lives of Abians.
