 ANAMBRA POLICE COMMAND RECEIVES AND AUGMENTS IGP’S MONITORING UNIT OPERATIVES ON ENFORCEMENT OF POLICE PERSONNEL WITHDRAWAL FROM VIP ESCORT DUTIES IN THE STATE The Anambra State Police Command today 8th December 2025 formally received operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)’s Monitoring Unit deployed to the state to ensure full implementation of the IGP’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties. The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the IGP’s reform efforts targeted at enhancing professionalism, discipline, and optimal deployment of police manpower nationwide. The CP noted that the withdrawal of these officers will help to strengthen public policing, improve response capacity, and ensure that more personnel are available for core policing duties across the state. ABIA STATE GOVERNOR COMMISERATES WITH FIRE VICTIMS, PROMISES SUPPORT. (PHOTO).


 

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has paid an unscheduled visit to the site of a devastating fire incident that occurred at No. 73 Lagos Street, Off Ngwa road Aba, where a two-storey building was engulfed in flames, destroying properties worth millions of Naira.


Governor Otti expressed his sympathy for the victims and described the incident as "unfortunate." He assured them that the government would provide support to reduce the impact of their loss and help them secure alternative accommodation. The governor also thanked God that no lives were lost in the inferno.


The governor directed his Senior Special Assistant on Homeland Security to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire. He emphasized the importance of having fire extinguishers in every household and ordered the enforcement of this measure.


Governor Otti was dismayed to learn that the phone numbers of the Fire Service men at Aba were switched off during the incident and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.


The victims, including the landlord, Mr. Vincent Uzuegbu, and tenants, Mr. and Mrs. Obinna Obi, recounted their ordeal, stating that they were asleep when the fire started and were unable to salvage any of their belongings. They appealed to the state government for assistance, having lost everything in the fire.
