 Malian army withdraws from key Tessalit military camp: sources Mali’s army and its Russian mercenary allies have surrendered Camp Tessalit, a strategic military post in the north, multiple sources told the AFP news agency on Friday. An official from the Tuareg-led separatist group claimed soldiers and mercenaries at the camp had "surrendered", following a fierce fight over the weekend. Simultaneous attacks in Mali by militants linked to Al Qaeda and separatist Tuareg rebels on April 25 showed how fighters ​from different groups with different goals were able to strike at the heart of the West African country's military government. Gunfire and explosions were reported in the capital Bamako and around a large military base outside the capital, as well as Gao and central areas, as gunfire continuing in the northern city of Kidal.  Makinde, Alli mourn as Ex-Oyo PDP guber candidate, Adeojo buried in Ibadan


Governor Seyi Makinde has extended his condolences to the family of the late Yekini Adeojo, a former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State.

Makinde’s condolences came after the burial of Adeojo in Ibadan, the state capital.

Describing the former party man as one of the last men standing, Makinde said Adeojo’s death marked the end of a glorious political era.

This is contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

The governor also commiserated with the PDP family in Oyo State, saying, “Baba’s death marks the end of a glorious political era, as he was one of the last great men standing in the state as a political, community and religious leader. He will be greatly missed by the PDP family, where he has been our leader and icon for over two decades.

“His death will also leave a vacuum in our great state and Nigeria because Baba gave his best to serving our state and nation. It is my prayer that God will grant repose to his soul, grant him Aljanah Firdaus and uphold the family he left behind”.

Meanwhile the Chairman, Senate Committee on Electoral Matter, Sharafadeen Alli, in his condolence message, expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Adeojo.

Alli in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, described Adeojo’s passing as a great loss to Yorubaland, the Muslim Ummah and the nation at large.

The All Progressives Congress, APC lawmaker said Adeojo lived a fulfilled life devoted to the service of Allah, humanity and the nation.

He described the late statesman as a beacon of wisdom and a political colossus, who impacted many lives positively across religious and political divides.

The lawmaker said the late Seriki was respected as a unifying figure whose influence spread beyond politics.

He noted that Adeojo’s deep knowledge of political strategy and Islamic teachings earned him respect across Yorubaland and Nigeria.
