 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  More Politicians to Join APC Ahead of 2027, Says Gov. Uzodinma


Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has predicted a wave of defections from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the 2027 elections approach, citing the party’s growing influence.


Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Saturday after meeting with political stakeholders from Delta State, Uzodinma, who chairs the Progressives Governors Forum, highlighted recent high-profile defections, including that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other key figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.


“The tide is moving, and people are joining with no end in sight,” Uzodinma said. “Delta is now almost a one-party state, with our party growing from strength to strength.”


He emphasized that the APC would leverage its internal mechanisms to integrate new and existing members, fostering unity to support the Delta State government and advance the party’s goals. “We are meeting to manage this huge success, ensuring we receive our new leaders and grow as a family for the benefit of our people,” he added.


Uzodinma described the defections as a testament to the APC’s widespread admiration across Nigeria, expressing confidence in the party’s continued expansion ahead of the 2027 polls.
