 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting.  North-Central APC Names Akume as Leader, Targets 6 Million Votes for Tinubu in 2027


The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has officially adopted Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), as the party’s leader in the zone.


The decision was made during a stakeholders' meeting in Abuja on Thursday, with Forum Chairman Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga emphasizing Akume’s seniority as the highest-ranking APC member in the region.


The Forum commended Akume for fostering unity within the party and reaffirmed its commitment to securing six million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.


It also urged Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to recognize Akume’s leadership and work towards resolving internal party disputes for a stronger APC presence in the region.
