In a significant victory against urban crime, operatives of Operation Crush Sector 2 and 3 in Aba apprehended a notorious robbery suspect, 32-year-old Success Nnamdi Anyanwu, in the early hours of April 25, 2025. The arrest occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. in front of a car stand opposite Abia Hotels along Aba-Owerri Road, Aba North Local Government Area.
The breakthrough followed an outcry from commercial sex workers in the area, who reported that Anyanwu, posing as a client, habitually lured them under false pretenses during late hours, only to rob them at gunpoint while riding a motorcycle. The swift response of Operation Crush operatives led to Anyanwu’s immediate capture before he could flee the scene.
During initial questioning, Anyanwu, a resident of 1 Dike Close off C.O. Emeka Street, World Bank Abayi, Osisioma LGA, confessed to robbing multiple victims. Police recovered several items in his possession, including a gold-colored Toyota Camry (registration: Rivers KRK 958 HG), three solar lights, a red jacket, a bottle of herbal mixture, two wraps of Indian hemp, a yellow lighter, approximately ₦180,400 in cash, an Infinix Android phone, and a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone.
Further investigation linked the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to an armed carjacking on April 24, 2025, where a Toyota Harrier was stolen at gunpoint from Barrister Peter Ikechukwu Osita at 11 Ishiagu Street, off Umuode Road, Aba. Anyanwu admitted to purchasing some of the recovered items, including the smartphone for ₦40,000, the solar lights for ₦14,000, and the red jacket for ₦3,000, from an individual known as “Ifeanyi” at a drug peddling hub in the Bakassi area along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, Osisioma Ngwa LGA, on the evening of April 24.
A known ex-convict, Anyanwu has been transferred to the Police Scissors Unit along Emelogu Road, Aba South LGA, for further investigation. Authorities are actively pursuing his accomplice, Ifeanyi, who remains at large.
The Abia State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime and urged residents to provide timely information to aid ongoing efforts to ensure safety and security.
