 ANAMBRA POLICE ACTION ON THE CULT CLASH THAT RESULTED IN THE FATAL INJURY OF FOUR PERSONS AT AFOR NAWFIA MARKET The Anambra State Police Command wishes to provide a comprehensive update on the cult-related attack that occurred on the evening of 7th December 2025 at Afor Nawfia Market, along the Onitsha–Awka Old Road. It will be recalled that operatives of the Command attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugwu-Ukwu, had, four days earlier, acting on credible intelligence about a planned rival cult confrontation, arrested two dangerous suspects and recovered a firearm from them. The arrested suspects have been assisting the Police with valuable information aimed at preventing further cult-related violence within Awka and its environs. Oshiomhole Convinced Us To Make Obaseki Governor – Philip Shaibu


Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, has disclosed that his choice to support his former boss, Godwin Obaseki, stemmed from his respect for Adams Oshiomhole, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Naija News, Shaibu shared his doubts about Obaseki during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm program on Tuesday.


Shaibu admitted that he lacked confidence in Obaseki's leadership even before they took office on November 12, 2016. He explained that despite his initial hesitations, he ultimately backed Obaseki out of respect and based on the assurances provided by Oshiomhole.


He stated, “Obaseki is not a politician. We made him governor because Oshiomhole persuaded us. I was not among those who thought he should not be governor; it was because I didn’t have faith in him.


“When he was nominated to run, I was the last person to oppose him, but out of respect, I was swayed. We were told, and Comrade predicted accurately, that we needed him because we were entering a recession and required someone with an economic background and private sector experience. We trusted Comrade, but we didn’t trust him.”


Reflecting on their first term, Shaibu noted that they dismantled their political structure to support Obaseki, believing in Oshiomhole’s vision for the state, but the situation changed significantly during the second term.


He added, “We broke down our structure and gave him everything. The second term was a completely different scenario; it was a time of godfatherism in Edo State.”
