Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years.  Peter  Obi Visits Bokkos Attack Victims in Plateau, Donates ₦7.5 Million for Relief

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi visited victims and families affected by the recent killings in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday, expressing grief over the “senseless violence.” The 63-year-old, in a statement shared on his official X handle on Monday, called the attacks “utterly unacceptable” in a country not at war.

Obi traveled from Abuja to Jos to show solidarity with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State. During his visit to Bokkos, he met with displaced persons, children, and survivors, lamenting the scale of destruction. “Nigerians should not be killed or forced to flee their homes when we are not at war. Every life is precious,” he said, offering condolences to the affected families and communities.

The former Anambra governor announced a ₦7.5 million donation to support displaced children, education continuity, and other needs in the community, building on prior efforts by his supporters, including a borehole project for clean water at an IDP camp. “My heart is with the people of Bokkos during this difficult time,” Obi added.

He called for decisive leadership and compassion, stressing, “I stand in solidarity with Plateau State and remain committed to supporting all efforts toward peace, justice, and healing.” Obi also prayed for the souls of the departed and for strength and unity as the communities rebuild.
