 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Two Arrested for Criminal Conspiracy and Theft


On 29 March 2025 at about 1900 hours, Yahaza Haruna, a 41-year-old resident of the Gidan Gona area in Bauchi Metro, reported to the Command that earlier that same day, at about 1800 hours, he parked his motor vehicle, a green 2000 model Honda Civic with registration number ALK-627-GG, at Yelwan Tudu market. Upon his return, he discovered the vehicle was missing and suspected theft by unknown individuals, prompting him to notify the police.


Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives was assigned to investigate the matter and recover the stolen vehicle. Subsequently, the detectives intercepted the stolen car along the Maiduguri bypass near Awala roundabout. The vehicle was found with two individuals identified as follows:


1. Ibrahim Uzeru, a 30-year-old resident of Kashere Santuraki, Akko Local Government Area, Gombe State

2. John Paul  35-year-old resident of the Bayan Gari area, Bauchi State.


During interview, neither individual could provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the vehicle, resulting in their arrest for further investigation.


During interrogation, one of the suspects, Mr Ibrahim Uzeru, admitted to have received the stolen vehicle from his employer and mentioned that he had invited Mr John Paul to accompany him to Durum and hand over the vehicle to an undisclosed individual. Uzeru also indicated that he had promised Mr. John Paul a sum of twenty thousand naira (₦20,000) as his reward.


The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc(+), mni, has directed that the case be charged to court upon completing the investigation.
