Breaking- A shocking and nearly UNBELIEVABLE story is emerging.
A Florida man has been arrested after a woman saved herself from a completely unimaginable ordeal.
At approximately 5:20 p.m. on Monday, April 28th, the Washington County Sheriff's Department (FL.) received a disturbing call. A man called 911 to report a woman who was badly beaten had flagged him down from the side of the road.
When first responders arrived on scene they found a woman who had suffered a severe beating. The victim was still in handcuffs with duct tape around her neck.
As police began to question her, the full extent of what this unnamed victim had endured; and the remarkable bravery she displayed while saving herself, became apparent.
According to the victim, the beginning of the traumatic experience began Sunday when 40-year-old David Gipson showed up at her home. She said Gipson claimed her husband and brother-in-law owed him money.
Gipson then began to take items from around the house before suddenly attacking the woman. He knocked her to the ground and handcuffed her. After restraining her, he removed all of her clothing. She was terrified and confused.
While she was lying naked on the floor, Gipson began brutally and viciously attacking her elderly mother-in-law, 74-year-old Lettie Collins. Sadly, Lettie Collins would not survive this awful assault. The victim stated the last time she saw Collins, "her face was covered in blood and her eyes were swollen shut".
After carrying out his violent attack on Collins, Gipson again turned his attention to our victim. He duct taped her mouth shut and dragged her from the home and into her deceased mother-in-law's car.
Gipson then took the victim to his home where he continued to violently abuse her both physically and sexually. He repeatedly taunted her saying he could kill her. The victim was understandably fearing for her life and in a state of panic and shock.
At some point he took the victim to a shed where he hog-tied her by tucking her legs behind her and connecting them to a rope placed around her neck. She essentially choked herself every time she moved. He then stuffed her into a storage container as if she was not a human. The victim said she became incredibly hot while restrained in this horrible fashion and felt like she was suffocating.
Despite all of this... the victim never gave up hope of escape. After several hours, our victim was amazingly able to free her legs. She then kicked the lid of the container, working hard to knock off all of the items Gipson had piled on top of the container to make sure she couldn't escape. The woman was determined to get out alive. She finally freed herself from the container that could have been her final resting place. It is not clear if Gipson was going to keep her there forever or if was going to remove her and continue to do what he had done to her for hours for his own entertainment and pleasure.
The victim found herself in a shed after she was able to escape the container she was crammed into. She then fled the shed and began her mad dash to freedom. The victim had to stop and use a tree to remove the duct tape from her mouth due to her hands still being cuffed behind her back. She did this by rubbing her face against the tree until the duct tape was removed, no matter how badly it hurt. She was able to run to the roadway where she screamed while still handcuffed to get the attention of the first car she saw and initiate her own rescue.
After rescuing the victim, law enforcement descended on the home where this shocking saga began. They found Lettie Cooper Collins, 74, deceased as the result of the vicious beating she had suffered.
A multi-agency manhunt ensued and eventually David Gipson was located in a wooded area of Washington County.
David Gipson has been arrested on charges of sexual battery, aggravated battery and false imprisonment, as well as murder.
Our thoughts are with the victim. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we are so happy she was able to initiate her own rescue. Our thoughts are also with Lettie Collins and everyone who loved her.
