 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  EFCC Commences Investigation of Two Suspects in Kano for Alleged Fake $899, 800


The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , EFCC, has commenced investigation of two suspects arrested with counterfeit $899,800 (Eight Hundred and Ninety-Nine Thousand, Eight Hundred  United States Of America Dollars.


The suspects, Abubakar Hussaini (42) and Sahabi Adamu (53), were initially intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, along Maiduguri Road, Wudil, Kano State. They were traveling in a commercial Golf 3 Station Wagon car  en route to Kila Village in Gwaram Local Government Area , LGA, of Jigawa State.


Upon search, the NDLEA team discovered the suspected fake notes concealed inside a Maggi Star seasoning carton. The suspects and exhibits were subsequently handed over to the EFCC  for further investigation.


Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects were transporting the counterfeit currency to Kila Village to meet one Muhammad Walo, who was to introduce them to Mallam Mashiru, a self-proclaimed spiritualist claiming to be capable of  "transforming" counterfeit dollars into genuine currency through ritual prayers.

The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
