Bolstered by the Governor's decisive approval, the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Transformation, Creativity, and Innovation (OTCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, is set to launch a groundbreaking Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agency.
This strategic initiative marks a paradigm shift in pre-hospital care, poised to deliver critical ambulance emergency services to those in urgent need across the state.
The OTCI, spearheading this transformative effort, will elevate the existing department into a robust and authoritative body. This new agency will be equipped with a comprehensive corporate planning model, ensuring efficient coordination of ambulance emergency medical responses statewide.
The core objectives include significantly reducing response times, enhancing the quality of patient care during emergencies, and ultimately lowering mortality rates. By integrating innovation and creativity, the agency will leverage cutting-edge technology and cultivate strategic alliances to provide exceptional emergency medical services.
"We are thrilled to embark on this landmark collaboration with the Ministry of Health," stated Mrs. Toyin Anjous Ademuyiwa, Director-General of OTCI. "The establishment of this new emergency medical response agency signifies a monumental leap forward in bolstering healthcare outcomes for all residents of Lagos State."
Echoing the same sentiment, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health lauded the professionalism demonstrated by the OTCI team, stating, "We are eager to witness OTCI's expertise in action and are confident in the success of this vital initiative. We look forward to a strong partnership with all stakeholders."
The newly formed agency will build upon the foundation of existing emergency medical services, strategically expanding its reach and enhancing care provision, particularly in underserved communities.
Key enhancements of the new agency will include streamlined systems, expanded access, increasing access to crucial emergency medical services, especially in remote and rural areas and elevated expertise which provides improved training and robust capacity-building programmes for all emergency responders.
The Office of Transformation, Creativity, and Innovation is steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the successful establishment and operationalisation of this vital new agency.
The government firmly believes that this initiative will usher in a transformative era for emergency medical care within the state, ultimately saving lives and fostering improved health outcomes for all Nigerians residing in Lagos.
