 PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE COMMENDS RESILIENCE OF NIGERIAN WORKERS President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio has congratulated Nigerian workers on International Labour Day 2026, praising their resilience, hard work, and patriotism despite economic challenges. In his May Day message, Akpabio described workers as the true heroes of Nigeria’s democracy and the engine of the economy. The Lord Mayor of Leeds, United Kingdom, and Gimbiyan Jaba, Abigail Marshall Katung, together with her husband, the Lord Mayor Consort, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, were recently honoured with a royal invitation to attend a Garden Party hosted by His Majesty King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.


The prestigious event, held on Tuesday, 20th May, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m., brought together distinguished guests from across the United Kingdom, in celebration of exceptional contributions to public service, community development, and national unity.


The Lord Mayor and her husband joined many inspiring leaders and individuals at The King’s Garden Party, an esteemed tradition that underscores the monarchy’s recognition of civic responsibility and community engagement.


The event also served as a platform for meaningful dialogue and the exchange of ideas. 


Her Worship and Senator Katung used the occasion to spotlight the need for collaboration in fostering development in Nigeria, particularly in the Southern Kaduna region.
