Six Soldiers, Two Civilians Detained By Nigerian Police In Kaduna Over Death Of 65-Year-Old Man

Six military personnel and two civilians have been arrested in connection with the alleged torture and death of a 65-year-old man, Surajo, popularly known as “Alhaji M,” in Millennium City, Kaduna State.

According to sources, the incident occurred on May 3, 2025, after two civilians — Alhaji Adamu Jinjiri of Shehu Laminu Road and Ibrahim Yakubu of Maladanga Road, both residents of Unguwan Rimi — accused Surajo of conspiring in the theft of a cow and an electrical distribution box.

They alleged he was assisting a suspect identified as Yahaya Aleiru, who is currently at large.

The accused was subsequently handed over to members of the Millennium City Strike Force, a local military security outfit.

Investigations revealed that Surajo was allegedly subjected to severe torture at a military checkpoint by Lieutenant Alhassan Musa and five other soldiers, resulting in his collapse.

He was rushed to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed that all eight suspects — the six military operatives and the two civilians who initiated the arrest — have been taken into custody.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Kaduna, for thorough investigation,” a police source said.
