Umahi Criticizes Labour Party, Praises Tinubu in Ministerial Briefing

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, launched a sharp rebuke against the Labour Party and its supporters, particularly followers of 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, during the Ministerial Press Briefing in Abuja on Friday. Umahi, while presenting his ministry’s performance, distanced himself from the opposition party, stating, “I don’t want to be disobedient or be a member of Labour Party that are very disobedient.”

In his address, Umahi extended gratitude to his colleagues, commending the Minister of State for Works, the Permanent Secretary, and all Directors, with special praise reserved for President Bola Tinubu. “Greater commendation goes to Mr. President,” he added.

Highlighting a key achievement, Umahi lauded Tinubu for initiating the Sokoto-Badagry road project, an idea first conceived 47 years ago under former President Shehu Shagari. The minister noted that Tinubu, whom he described as “a very detribalised President,” directed the reversal of the original Badagry-Sokoto route to Sokoto-Badagry. Umahi, the former Ebonyi State governor, hailed Tinubu’s courage and visionary leadership, crediting him with driving significant progress since taking office in May 2023.
