Aba Tricycle Driver Returns ₦4 Million to Passenger, Earns Praise for Honesty

Onye Photo, a tricycle driver and Jehovah’s Witness from Umuomei, Obingwa Local Government Area, has been hailed as a hero for his remarkable act of honesty. On Thursday morning, June 26, 2025, Onyema returned ₦4 million left behind by a female passenger in his tricycle, known locally as a "keke."

According to Onye, the passenger, a Cameroonian woman, boarded his keke from Aba Main Park to Ariaria Market. After she alighted, she forgot a bag containing the large sum of money. Realizing the situation, Onyema searched for her at the park but could not find her. Determined to reunite her with her money, he returned to Ariaria Market, where he found the woman at a junction, distraught and in tears, contemplating suicide.

Onye promptly returned the ₦4 million to her, calmed her down, and advised her to spend the night in a hotel to recover before continuing her journey. The grateful passenger paid for the hotel stay as a gesture of appreciation.

Despite being mocked by some fellow keke drivers who called him a "mugu" (fool) for not keeping the money, Onyema expressed pride in his actions, emphasizing his faith and integrity as a Jehovah’s Witness. "I love what I did," he said. "I need a new keke, but not another woman’s money."

Onye, who hails from a humble background in Obingwa, attributed his actions to his devotion to Jehovah, stating, "I have made your name to be praised." His selfless act has sparked admiration across Aba, shining a light on the power of honesty and compassion.
