 Lagos hotel, 3 other properties forfeited by drug kingpins auctioned at N6.1billion *- It’s a clear message that cartels won’t be allowed to enjoy proceeds of their criminal trade, says Marwa*  A Lagos hotel and three other properties seized from drug kingpins by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and forfeited to the Federal Government through court processes have been auctioned for the sum of Six Billion One Hundred and Forty- Eight Million Nine Hundred and Sixty-Four Thousand Naira (N6,148,964,000.00) only. This was the outcome of a competitive bid process for the sale of eight assets forfeited by drug barons in parts of the country. While bidders who offered above reserved prices emerged winners of four of the listed properties, bids for four others failed because none offered up to the reserved prices. Abia Lands Commissioner Escapes Assassination Attempt on Okigwe–Umuahia Road


Chaka Chukwumerije, the Abia State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt two nights ago when unknown gunmen opened fire on his vehicle along the Okigwe–Umuahia road.


The incident occurred as Chukwumerije, a key figure in Governor Alex Otti’s administration, was returning to Umuahia. According to his brother, Dike Chukwumerije, a trailing vehicle unleashed a barrage of bullets on the Commissioner’s car. Miraculously, Chukwumerije and three other occupants escaped unharmed, though their vehicle sustained significant damage from bullet holes.


Dike described the attack as a deliberate attempt on his brother’s life, highlighting Chaka’s dedication to public service and his alignment with Governor Otti’s reform agenda. “Chaka has buried himself in his work. He’s been selfless, focused, and fully aligned with the reform-driven government of Alex Otti,” he said. “Unfortunately, it is often people like him—committed to doing the right thing—who face the greatest threats.”


The Chukwumerije family expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s survival and reaffirmed their commitment to serving Abia State with integrity despite the dangers.


Security agencies are expected to investigate the attack, but no official statements have been issued by the Abia State Government or the Nigeria Police Force at this time.
