 President Trump awarded inaugural FIFA Peace Prize at World Cup draw in Washington  Gianni Infantino, the FIFA President presented the honour onstage at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, saying Trump had been selected “in recognition of his exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world”. “This is your prize, this is your peace prize,” Infantino said, after Trump took the stage to accept the trophy, a medal and certificate. “There is also a beautiful medal for you that you can wear everywhere you want to go.”   FIFA says the prize is for “individuals who help unite people in peace through unwavering commitment and special actions”.  Accepting the award, Trump called it “one of the great honours of my life”, before claiming to have “saved millions and millions of lives – the Congo is an example, over 10 million people killed and it was heading for another 10 million very quickly. Abia Lands Commissioner Escapes Assassination Attempt on Okigwe–Umuahia Road


Chaka Chukwumerije, the Abia State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt two nights ago when unknown gunmen opened fire on his vehicle along the Okigwe–Umuahia road.


The incident occurred as Chukwumerije, a key figure in Governor Alex Otti’s administration, was returning to Umuahia. According to his brother, Dike Chukwumerije, a trailing vehicle unleashed a barrage of bullets on the Commissioner’s car. Miraculously, Chukwumerije and three other occupants escaped unharmed, though their vehicle sustained significant damage from bullet holes.


Dike described the attack as a deliberate attempt on his brother’s life, highlighting Chaka’s dedication to public service and his alignment with Governor Otti’s reform agenda. “Chaka has buried himself in his work. He’s been selfless, focused, and fully aligned with the reform-driven government of Alex Otti,” he said. “Unfortunately, it is often people like him—committed to doing the right thing—who face the greatest threats.”


The Chukwumerije family expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s survival and reaffirmed their commitment to serving Abia State with integrity despite the dangers.


Security agencies are expected to investigate the attack, but no official statements have been issued by the Abia State Government or the Nigeria Police Force at this time.
