Babangida Mourns Mokwa Flood Victims, Calls Disaster “Act of God”

Former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, has described the recent Mokwa flood, which claimed over 200 lives, as “unfortunate but an act of God.” Speaking during a Sallah homage visit by a Niger State government delegation led by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba at his Uphill Residence in Minna, Babangida expressed his condolences to the people of Mokwa and Niger State.

“What happened in Mokwa is unfortunate, but it is ordained by Allah. It is beyond our powers, and this is why we should all continue to pray for the souls of the deceased,” Babangida said. He urged residents to remain prayerful for the victims while commending Governor Umaru Bago’s administration for its developmental efforts, pledging his continued support.

Deputy Governor Garba, leading the state delegation, noted that the visit aimed to seek Babangida’s blessings and fatherly advice. Acknowledging the former leader’s concern over the Mokwa tragedy, Garba praised Babangida’s enduring role as a national pillar of hope. “The people of Niger State and Nigeria appreciate your diligent service to the country. We assure you that the state government will not fail you,” Garba said.

The Mokwa flood has drawn widespread sympathy, with the state government intensifying relief efforts for affected communities.
