In a heartfelt statement posted on his verified X account on Saturday, Mbah promised to immortalize the cultural icon, whose work profoundly shaped Nigeria’s musical heritage.

Describing Ejeagha as a “legend, cultural ambassador, and revered son of Enugu State,” Mbah praised the musician’s ability to transform simple Igbo folktales into universally resonant highlife songs. “His immense talent and genius lay in how he took simple indigenous folktales and turned them into unforgettable songs that resonate across cultures,” the governor said.

Mbah highlighted Ejeagha’s humility and widespread appeal, noting that his fanbase transcended boundaries, making him one of the most recognizable voices in Nigerian music. “He was one of the finest musicians of his generation, with an easygoing personality and a humility that belied his towering celebrity status,” Mbah added.

The governor described Ejeagha’s death as a significant loss, not only for his family but for Enugu State, the music community, and the nation. “His death leaves a huge void that will be difficult to fill. But the legacies he has left behind will last a lifetime,” he stated.

On behalf of the Enugu State Government, Mbah extended condolences to the Ejeagha family, assuring them of the state’s support. He also committed to ensuring that Ejeagha’s legacy is “duly immortalized.” The governor concluded with a prayer for the family, saying, “I pray that his family experiences the comforting grace of God’s love, and the fortitude to bear the loss.
