 Abuja High Court orders INEC to deregister ADC, Accord Party, others Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, and others from participating in the 2027 general elections over alleged constitutional breaches. Justice Lifu issued the order on Monday, June 15, while delivering judgment in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, and instituted by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and several political parties, including the ADC, Action Alliance, APP, Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party. The plaintiffs argued that the affected political parties failed to meet constitutional requirements relating to electoral spread and performance.  Family Demands Justice Over Teen’s Suspicious Drowning at Merryhome Hotels in Aba


The family of 17-year-old Divine Odide is seeking justice following the tragic and suspicious death of their son at the swimming pool of Merryhome Hotels, located on Chief Ubani Street, Off 7Up Road, Ogbor Hill, Aba, on June 25, 2025.


Divine reportedly drowned while swimming at the hotel on June 10, 2025. His father, Mr. Orji Odide, addressed journalists in Umuahia on Wednesday, accusing the hotel management of attempting to suppress the incident and evade accountability. He appealed to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for intervention to ensure a thorough investigation.


The case, initially reported at Glass Police Station, 7Up, Aba, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia for further probe. The family is demanding transparency in the circumstances surrounding Divine’s death and urged authorities to ensure justice is served. 


Police investigations are ongoing, and no official statement has been released by Merryhome Hotels at this time of reporting.
