No good deed goes unpunished.  A Florida sea tow captain saved a man from a burning ship only to be shoved overboard and have his boat stolen. This shocking incident occurred near Marco Island on March 6th. On that date, a call went out regarding a burning boat. The captain of a sea tow boat heard the distress call and rushed to provide aid. He was able to quickly locate the burning boat and  discovered 40-year-old, Ryan Deiter, and his dog onboard the burning ship. Wasting no time, the captain of the sea tow boat was able to maneuver alongside the distressed boat and begin efforts to extricate Deiter and his dog from the doomed vessel.  Eventually, the sea tow captain was able to pull both Deiter and his dog onboard the tow boat. However, once Deiter was pulled to safety, he repaid a stranger's kindness with treachery.  Deiter shoved the captain from his own boat and fled the scene in the stolen boat, leaving the man who had just risked his own vessel and life...

Governor Otti Slams Early 2027 Election Talks, Backs Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has criticized politicians engaging in premature discussions and campaigns for the 2027 elections, describing such actions as “trying to play God.” Otti made the remarks on Sunday during a courtesy visit by former Abia State Governor and current Senator for Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, and former Senator for Abia Central, Chris Adighije, at his residence in Umuahia.

According to a statement by Otti’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the senators visited to commend the governor’s developmental strides in Abia State and discuss governance issues. Otti expressed dismay at politicians focusing on 2027, stating, “People in 2025 are talking of 2027… you can’t even talk about 2027 because there is no guarantee that you would go beyond 2025.” He emphasized that only the present is certain, urging leaders to focus on current responsibilities rather than speculative future ambitions.

Otti also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy, which he called a “courageous” and overdue decision. He described the subsidy as a “scam” and noted that Nigeria’s years of fiscal irresponsibility have led to the current economic challenges. “When you have years of irresponsible behavior, the correction would be tough, difficult, and painful,” Otti said, expressing optimism that perseverance would yield results. He highlighted his longstanding friendship with Tinubu, predating their current political roles, and clarified that his support is based on shared economic views.

Reflecting on his administration’s approach, Otti described governance as a continuum, noting that his government has “hit the reset button” to focus on progress without dwelling on past failures. He acknowledged Kalu’s contributions to road infrastructure during his tenure as governor, particularly in Aba, and said his administration is building on that template by prioritizing revenue-generating areas to fund further development.

Senator Kalu praised Otti’s achievements, particularly the rehabilitation of the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia road, which has reduced travel time from three hours to less than one. “You have done well for our State,” Kalu said, describing Otti as a lifelong friend and brother. He commended the Commissioner for Works for the road improvements in Igbere and urged Abians to support leaders who deliver progress.

Senator Adighije echoed Kalu’s sentiments, expressing pride in Otti’s leadership and pledging continued support for the state’s advancement, regardless of party lines. Both senators encouraged Otti to maintain close ties with President Tinubu to further Abia’s interests, while commending Tinubu’s national leadership.

Otti thanked the senators for their support and reiterated his commitment to working for Abia’s people without engaging in unnecessary conflicts.
