Ten men were arrested in Odisha’s Ganjam district for allegedly gang-raping a 20-year-old female college student at the Gopalpur sea beach on Sunday evening.

The survivor was with her male friend celebrating the Raja festival when the incident occurred.

According to the police complaint, the couple was sitting at a quiet spot on the beach when around 10 men arrived on motorcycles. They allegedly started taking photos of the two and threatened to leak them online. The group then reportedly beat up the male friend, tied his hands, and dragged the woman to a nearby abandoned house.

There, three of the accused allegedly took turns to sexually assault her. The police acted swiftly and arrested all ten men involved. Medical examinations of both the survivor and the suspects are being conducted, and the survivor’s condition is reported to be stable.

Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said that a thorough investigation is underway. He added that strict action will be taken and steps are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future. Authorities have assured full support to the survivor and her family.
