INEC Announces Continuous Voter Registration for Anambra and Nationwide

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has announced the reopening of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal to facilitate voter registration, transfer, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The announcement was made during INEC’s quarterly meeting with political parties in Abuja.

In preparation for the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State, the CVR exercise will commence in the state on July 8, 2025, and run through July 17, 2025. The exercise will take place across all 326 wards in Anambra, operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including weekends. Eligible citizens are encouraged to visit their Ward Collation Centres to register as new voters, transfer their registration from other states or within Anambra, or replace lost or damaged PVCs. Uncollected PVCs from previous registrations will also be available for collection during this period.

Prof. Yakubu emphasized that, in line with legal requirements, voter registration and the compilation of the voters’ register must be completed at least 90 days before the election date. He noted that online pre-registration is currently unavailable, and all registrations must be done in person.

Nationwide, the CVR exercise is set to begin on August 18, 2025, with online pre-registration, followed by in-person registration starting August 25. The exercise will be conducted simultaneously across all states, the Federal Capital Territory, and all 774 Local Government Area offices. INEC will release a detailed schedule of activities soon.

The commission urged eligible Nigerians to participate in the exercise to ensure their inclusion in the voters’ register for upcoming elections.
