 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville.  Kenya protest death toll hits eight, hundreds injured: Rights body


At least eight people died in nationwide anti-government protests in Kenya on Wednesday, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights said in a statement, TRT Afrika reported.


Another 400 people were injured during the demonstrations, the national rights watchdog said, including protesters, police personnel and journalists.


Some had gunshot wounds, it added.


Earlier Wednesday, Kenyans from different parts of the country poured to the streets to voice their concerns with the administration of President William Ruto.


Dissatisfaction with government


Police violence, economic hardship, national healthcare insurance challenges, an increase in the cost of education, and alleged corruption in government are among the reasons they cited for holding the demonstrations.


The protesters also convened to commemorate one year after major anti-tax demonstrations were held in the East African nation, prompting President Ruto to drop the tax increment plan.


In the 2024 demonstrations, at least 60 people lost their lives, with most of them succumbing to gunshot injuries.
