Ifeoluwa Akinwunmi, a 25-year-old Nigerian woman, risks up to 20 years jail in India after being arrested with banned substances.
Akinwunmi, reportedly a hairstylist and nail artist, was arrested by operatives of the Anti-Narcotics Wing of the Central Crime Branch in Bengaluru.
She was caught with a bag containing 5.325 kilograms of MDMA crystals, a banned party drug, worth over N1.8 billion. She was waiting for someone beside the road when operatives swooped on her.
“She is a courier," a police officer said. "She had come to hand over the drugs to a group of African peddlers."
Akinwunmi faces 10-20 years in prison for possessing the banned drug in commercial quantity. She also faces fine and deportation after serving her prison term.
