 ANAMBRA POLICE ACTION ON THE CULT CLASH THAT RESULTED IN THE FATAL INJURY OF FOUR PERSONS AT AFOR NAWFIA MARKET The Anambra State Police Command wishes to provide a comprehensive update on the cult-related attack that occurred on the evening of 7th December 2025 at Afor Nawfia Market, along the Onitsha–Awka Old Road. It will be recalled that operatives of the Command attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugwu-Ukwu, had, four days earlier, acting on credible intelligence about a planned rival cult confrontation, arrested two dangerous suspects and recovered a firearm from them. The arrested suspects have been assisting the Police with valuable information aimed at preventing further cult-related violence within Awka and its environs. S. A: COPS ARRESTS ELEVEN AND SEIZES UNPOLISHED DIAMONDS. (PHOTOS).

 


Eleven men arrested with unpolished diamonds in Northern Cape during anti-illegal mining operation. 

As part of the ongoing Operation Vala Umgodi, Northern Cape police have arrested 11 men for possession of unpolished diamonds and other offences related to illegal mining activities.


ACCORDING TO ANOTHER SOURCE:

COPS ARRESTS ELEVEN AND SEIZES  UNPOLISHED DIAMONDS 


Members attached to Operation Vala Umgodi arrested eleven(11) men between the ages of 29 and 44 years old in the Frances Baard and Namakwa districts respectively, at illegal mining hot-spots in the two districts. 


Disruptive actions were conducted by the Multi-disciplinary pro-active and combat teams deployed from Tuesday,  03 June 2025 until  Friday,  06 June 2025 in the Kimberley and Kleinzee area.


During the operations, members received information about suspected illegal miners hiding at a Game Reserve Farm near Koingnaas.


The information was operationalised and nine men were arrested and charged with various offences, including Contravention of Immigration laws, trespassing and possession of unpolished diamonds. 


Meanwhile, two  men were arrested for Contravention of Immigration laws when members were conducting compliance inspections, and the owner was issued with a fine for employing an undocumented person in Beaconsfield in Kimberley.


Various mining implements were confiscated at disused mine dumps in both districts. 


The fight against illegal mining remains a priority for the South African Police Service in the Northern Cape and efforts will be intensified to dismantle these operations.
