 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean.  Security Guard Arrested in Connection with N1 Shooting Incident Near Makhado


On 20 June 2025, at approximately 23:00, a 42-year-old male suspect, believed to be a security guard employed by a local security company, was arrested in Makhado in connection with a shooting incident that left a 28-year-old woman injured.


According to preliminary reports, the victim was travelling with family in a silver Toyota C-HR from Gauteng. As they approached the three-mile circle on the N1, their vehicle was allegedly stopped by an unknown vehicle. Sensing potential danger, the driver did not comply and instead executed a U-turn. The family continued driving before making another U-turn, heading back towards Makhado.


It was at this point, near the same location on the N1, that gunshots were reportedly fired at their vehicle, resulting in the woman sustaining injuries.


The suspect, identified as a 42-year-old security officer, was arrested at the scene. A Siga 7.62 rifle, believed to have been used in the shooting, was confiscated during the arrest.


The suspect is expected to appear before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 June 2025.
