President Bola Tinubu will confer national honours on selected legislators during a Special Joint Sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12, as part of activities marking this year’s Democracy Day. The announcement was made by House Spokesman, Hon. Akin Rotimi Jr., in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.
The joint sitting, where President Tinubu is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour, will feature an address by the President, goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly, and the conferment of national honours on select lawmakers. The event is themed “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”
Rotimi described the joint sitting as a significant moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, highlighting the National Assembly’s critical role in upholding democratic values, ensuring accountability, and driving national development over 26 years of uninterrupted civilian rule.
He called on Nigerians to use Democracy Day as an opportunity for reflection, renewed patriotism, and a collective commitment to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and united nation.
