Woman’s Body Found in Gutter in Uyo, Akwa Ibom; Police Launch Investigation

The body of a woman identified as Goodness Edem Israel was discovered in a gutter along Udok Street, off Barracks Road, Uyo, in the early hours of Thursday, June 26, 2025, according to police reports. The grim discovery was made by passersby and local residents, prompting immediate attention from authorities.

The cause of death remains unclear, with no visible signs of gunshot wounds or machete injuries noted on the body, except for foam observed around her nose. Residents, speaking anonymously, speculated that the woman may have been killed elsewhere and her body dumped in the gutter, as no reports of gunshots or violence were recorded in the area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the incident and revealed that the victim’s identity was established through a National Identification Number (NIN) found with her body. “The name on the NIN found carries ‘Goodness Edem Israel’,” DSP John stated. She added that the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation into the matter and will provide updates as new developments emerge.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
