Deputies with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Department were called to an area apartment complex regarding a dispute on July 2nd at 3:36 a.m.
Upon arrival, they found a 41-year-old man suffering massive head trauma. Deputies reported there was blood everywhere on the ground and surrounding walls. The man had a handwritten note on his chest that read, "Pedo touches children."
The man was lying outside of apartment 207, so deputies knocked on the door as part of their investigation. 27-year-old Journee McGrew (pictured below) answered the door and immediately inquired if the man was alive.
Authorities quickly obtained a search warrant for the home. Once inside, police discovered footprints leading to the bathroom where they found a hammer and blood-stained clothes.
Authorities interviewed Journee's father, who alleged Journee had told him the man had shown up at her apartment demanding s*x. She said when she refused, he had violently grabbed her, so she had struck him with the hammer.
Journee went on to tell authorities, "the man had groomed her since she was 8 years old and had assaulted her multiple times."
Further investigations revealed Journee had texted the man and told him she had been "fantasizing about him" and invited him over. The man had come over, and the two had spent the evening together. At some point, the man began to pressure Journee for intimate relations and she allegedly refused and told him to leave. Authorities say as he was leaving, Journee retrieved the hammer from the closet and hid it as they approached the door. As the man was leaving, he turned and reportedly wrapped his arms around Journee in a way she described as forceful. Journee then carried out the attack that ultimately claimed the man's life.
Journee was arrested and charged with second-degree homicide and concealing evidence.
