ADC Chieftain Warns David Mark, Party Leadership Against Imposition Ahead of 2027

A prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Salihu Lukman, on Tuesday, issued a stern warning to the party’s newly inaugurated national leadership, headed by former Senate President David Mark, to steer clear of the “culture of imposition” and internal conflicts that have plagued other political parties in Nigeria.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Lukman emphasized the need for the ADC to uphold democratic principles and transparency in its operations as the 2027 general elections approach. He cautioned the leadership against adopting practices that could undermine the party’s unity and credibility, such as imposing candidates or sidelining members in decision-making processes.

“The ADC must distinguish itself as a party of integrity and fairness,” Lukman stated. “We cannot afford to replicate the internal wrangling and imposition tactics that have weakened other political platforms. Our focus should be on building a united front to deliver credible leadership for Nigerians.”

Lukman’s remarks come amid growing concerns about factionalism and leadership tussles within Nigeria’s political landscape. He urged the David Mark-led executive to prioritize inclusivity, engage grassroots members, and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants in the party’s primaries.

The ADC, a growing opposition party, has been positioning itself as a viable alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political parties. The newly inaugurated leadership, which includes prominent figures from across the country, is tasked with strengthening the party’s structure and expanding its national presence.

When contacted, a spokesperson for the ADC national leadership declined to comment on Lukman’s statements but reaffirmed the party’s commitment to fostering unity and democratic values. Political analysts suggest that Lukman’s warning highlights the challenges facing the ADC as it seeks to gain traction ahead of the 2027 polls.

As preparations for the next election cycle intensify, all eyes will be on the ADC to see how it navigates internal dynamics and positions itself in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape. Further developments are expected as the party outlines its roadmap for the coming years.
