ADC Slams APC’s Claim of No Vacancy in Aso Rock for 2027, Calls It Undemocratic

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a stern warning to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that the presidency is not a family inheritance but a mandate that must be earned through performance and public trust. The opposition party was reacting to a recent statement by the new APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who claimed there would be “no vacancy in Aso Rock” come 2027.

In a statement released on Tuesday, signed by the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the APC chairman’s remark as “arrogant and undemocratic,” arguing that it disrespects Nigerians and their right to choose their leaders. The ADC emphasized that periodic elections ensure every incumbent must renew their mandate, making the APC’s claim dismissive of the electorate’s power.

“The APC Chairman’s declaration of ‘no vacancy in Aso Rock’ is presumptuous and disrespectful to Nigerians who are grappling with hunger, insecurity, joblessness, and unfulfilled promises,” the statement read. “The APC is clearly scared and would rather avoid facing voters on election day.”

The ADC challenged President Tinubu to “re-apply” to the Nigerian people in 2027, proving why he deserves to continue despite what the party called “ruinous policies” that have worsened the lives of many. The statement highlighted the APC government’s alleged failures in addressing soaring food prices, persistent insecurity, unreliable electricity supply, and rising poverty levels.

The ADC accused the ruling party of self-praise while ignoring the struggles of ordinary citizens. “To claim there’s no vacancy two years before an election is like telling Nigerians their votes don’t matter,” the statement added. “It’s an insult to struggling parents, jobless graduates, and business owners suffering through no fault of their own.”

The ADC concluded by reiterating that the APC must face the electorate in 2027 and cannot assume leadership without accountability. “Come 2027, the APC must reapply to lead this country—they don’t get to score themselves,” the statement declared.
