Edo State Government Approves ₦1 Billion Bursary for Students Nationwide

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved a ₦1 billion bursary scheme for Edo indigenes studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The announcement was made during a youth town hall meeting in Benin City, underscoring the administration’s commitment to education and youth empowerment.

The bursary initiative, set to run annually, aims to alleviate financial burdens on students, promote academic excellence, and ensure access to quality education for Edo indigenes. Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the program will support students regardless of their institution’s location within Nigeria, fostering inclusivity and equal opportunity.

To ensure transparency and authenticity, eligibility for the bursary will be verified through applicants’ local government authorities. The verification process is designed to confirm that only genuine Edo indigenes benefit from the scheme, preventing fraudulent claims.

“This initiative reflects our dedication to investing in the future of our youth,” Governor Okpebholo stated. “By easing financial constraints, we aim to empower our students to focus on their studies and contribute meaningfully to the development of Edo State and Nigeria at large.”

The state government has outlined that the bursary disbursement process will commence in the coming weeks, with further details on application procedures to be released through official channels. Stakeholders, including student unions and community leaders, have commended the move, describing it as a significant step toward educational advancement in Edo State.

The ₦1 billion bursary scheme is part of Governor Okpebholo’s broader agenda to prioritize education, skills development, and youth empowerment, ensuring that Edo indigenes have the resources needed to thrive in a competitive academic environment.

For more information on the application process, students are advised to contact their respective local government councils or visit the Edo State Government’s official website.
